Tool for testing rich snippets in the Google SERP

Coming back from summer vacation I have spent some time digging into the different rich snippets that Google might display in it's result page (SERP).

Disclaimer: Any references of "black hat seo" in this blog post and in any pages linked to by this blog post is only there for the fun of it and nothing else!

While doing this I stumbled upon a tool that Google let's us use to validate pages using rich snippets. This is great, because otherwhise we would be left to guessing, and from experience I can say that it's a hassle.

Of course I wanted to test this out in more detail, so I created a page here on klikki.com that uses the Microformats for recipes in presenting a recipe for "Black Hat SEO" :) . The support for this microformat was added by Google during the spring this year. Check out the source code of that page if you want to know how it's done!

Of course, my "recipe" would never be listed with the "rich snippet" since Google tries to keep abuse out of it's SERP. But if you have recipes published on your site, I urge you to implement support for any of the standards that will allow your pages to be listed with a "rich snippet".

Why rich snippets?

This is sort of a no brainer, and if you don't realise that having rich snippets in the SERP will get you better visibility and better CTR, you should be doing something else :)
